When power is concentrated, accountability falters, and Oregonians pay the price. It’s time for balance in Salem to ensure our state government truly serves the people, which only comes from electing more Republicans.

SALEM, Ore – The Oregon Senate Republican Caucus has announced its unanimous opposition to Ballot Measure 118 (Initiative Petition 17), which has officially qualified for the November 2024 ballot. This measure poses a significant threat to all Oregonians and undermines the economic stability of the state.

“Measure 118 is another out-of-state and dangerous experiment that doesn’t align with the needs of Oregonians. It threatens our economic stability by driving up costs for businesses and consumers, leading to widespread job losses and higher prices for goods and services,” said Senate Republican Leader Daniel Bonham (R-The Dalles). “This measure will result in severe cuts to essential public services, including education, public safety, and infrastructure. We cannot afford to gamble with Oregon’s future on unproven and risky policies. We urge voters to stand with us in protecting Oregon's future by rejecting Measure 118.”

The Senate Republican Caucus’ unanimous opposition to Measure 118 is based on the following concerns:

Economic Impact on Businesses and Consumers: Measure 118 would drive up costs for businesses, which are likely to be passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices for goods and services. This could lead to job losses and business closures, exacerbating Oregon’s already struggling economy. By imposing new financial burdens, the measure threatens to undermine the financial well-being of every Oregonian.

Unproven and Risky Experiment: The measure promotes a form of universal basic income, an untested and risky experiment that could lead to increased costs and reduced funding for essential services. This is not the time to gamble with Oregon's future on socialist economic theories that could harm every Oregonian.

Threat to Public Services: Measure 118 would significantly reduce funding for essential public services, including education, law enforcement, and infrastructure. Oregon’s education system is already struggling to provide quality education to students, and law enforcement agencies face budget constraints that impact their ability to ensure public safety. Additionally, the state is grappling with the challenge of maintaining critical infrastructure, from roads to bridges, which are vital for daily life and economic activity. Further reductions in funding would exacerbate these issues, undermining the state’s ability to support education, ensure public safety, and maintain essential infrastructure, ultimately affecting the quality of life for every Oregonian.

Misleading and Harmful: The title of the initiative is misleading, and its implications have not been fully disclosed to the public. There is no such thing as free money; it comes with hidden costs that will be borne by businesses and taxpayers. The measure fails to fully disclose these implications. It is crucial for Oregonians to understand that the costs associated with this measure will ultimately affect their wallets in a significant way.

“Oregon Senate Republicans are dedicated to creating an environment where businesses can thrive and grow in Oregon, rather than driving them away,” said Senator Anderson for the Coast (R-Lincoln City). “We hope voters will join us in our commitment to ensuring a prosperous future for all Oregonians.”

Senator Bonham added, “We thank Governor Tina Kotek for opposing this costly measure. We urge every Oregonian–and all our legislative colleagues–to learn the facts and stand with us.”

Also funny seeing the Republicans in oregons congress agreeing with the governor 🤣 she doesn't like the measure either, probably because she has wealthy friends who like tax breaks

Everyone is going to get a kicker from the state and you don't want that!?! But when trump handed out checks it was cool right?

Your constituents want to know, where does it cut funding for schools, you insult us by not being honest about what the bill really says

If you make more than 25 million dollars you should be taxed at least 30k?! Very misleading how the Republicans in oregon are presenting this lol. Post the actual measure not just your "spin" on it. Says nothing about cutting funding to schools or any of what you've said. It forces the biggest business in Oregon to give back to the citizens of the state instead of just hoarding all the wealth the state and its citizens generate. I read the measure it's 4 pages find me where it says it cuts funding for schools. ballotpedia.org/Oregon_Measure_118,_Corporate_Tax_Revenue_Rebate_for_Residents_Initiative_(2024)
